Given the choice, most of us would prefer to die at home.  But where do we go, what do we do, when that choice is not possible?
The 36,000 square-foot Hospice Care Center, located on 12th Street behind the Miller Homestead and adjacent to Primary Care Partners, is a dream come true for as many as 700 families a year - families struggling to cope with the final days of life.

The first of its kind on the Western Slope, the Hospice Care Center provides a comfortable, home-like environment for patients and their families and focus on intensive medical end-of-life care for patients who can no longer be at home, but would rather not be hospitalized.
Design Features Include:

Each patient room is designed to feel like home while providing the highest level of comfort possible to both the patient and their loved ones.

Family members can stay in the large comfortable rooms with the patient or leave the care to the staff when they want to take a break and rest at home.

Each of the rooms provide a living space for families to "be" -- where they can spend time together and be close to the patient.  The entire care center is designed for living and families and loved ones are welcome twenty-four hours a day.  Pets, too, will be able to visit!

Additional amenities will include living rooms for larger families to get together and a kitchen where they can heat up a special meal.  For those who desire the comfort and quiet of a spiritual place, a chapel also will be located in the building.

The lobby is a warm and inviting place for those coming to visit their loved ones.  The lobby reception desk is staffed 24 hours a day.

The Hospice Care Center and its trained staff provide short-term care in a home-like setting in the most difficult times.  Our approach to care includes comprehensive physical, emotional, social, and spiritual support.  Services include:

  • General inpatient care (acute hospice care)
  • Short-term placement for individuals until pain and other symptoms are under control
  • Appropriate medications, medical supplies and equipment
  • Special menus (as needed)
  • 24-hour visitation by family, friends and pets
  • Grief counseling and support services for patients and families
The new Hospice Care Center is truly a community endeavor - built by the community for the community.  And because of philanthropy, no one will be turned away due to an inability to pay.
