Organizational History

Since our inception in 1993 Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado has experienced significant growth and expansion, both programmatically and geographically. The number of patients served each year has dramatically increased from 200 patients to more than 1,400 patients served in 2008.

We serve Mesa, Montrose, Delta and Ouray counties with the administrative office located in Grand Junction, Colorado.

The organization provides comprehensive hospice, palliative care and grief related services to over 7,000 square miles (population 170,000) in Western Colorado through four sites.

We are a community-based organization, governed by a Board of Directors and founding President/CEO, Christy Whitney, RN, MS, CNAA.

Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado has become
well-known for its innovations in end of life care directed at meeting the unique needs of rural areas of the state. We stretch to close the gaps in care when reimbursement is lacking, as well as develop new programs to serve the “un-served” and “underserved” throughout our service area.
