Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado is a community based non-profit program that serves Mesa, Delta, Montrose and Ouray counties.

Hospice care is unique. It is expert medical care and support encompassing  patients and their families. This specialized, compassionate care focuses on alleviating symptoms, relieving pain and making patients comfortable where they are - home, hospital, nursing home, assisted living facility or the new Hospice Care Center.

Hospice care is administered by a team of doctors, nurses, social workers, counselors, chaplains, certified nursing assistants and trained volunteers. All of our physicians and 25% of our RNs and CNAs are certified in hospice and palliative care. They focus on a person's needs - physical, psychological, social and spiritual - as well as the needs of the family and loved ones.

Hospice alleviates financial and practical distress too. Hospice does not make decisions regarding patient admittance based on the ability to pay. Hospice is a benefit of Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance plans. For many, hospice staff and all of the associated drugs, medical equipment, treatments, oxygen and other needs are covered at 100% with no cost to the patient. For those who are under-insured or have no insurance, a sliding scale fee schedule for hospice services is available, but we do provide care to all, regardless of ability to pay.
“I couldn’t have done it at home without Hospice help. It’s a beautiful philosophy and I support it wholeheartedly.” --Donna Granere

Hospice doesn't mean giving up hope. It means turning to specialized care aimed at making everyone - both the patient and the family - more comfortable.

Research shows that people who receive hospice care, on average, live 29 days longer than those who don't.

Our goal is to make whatever time a person has as comfortable and as meaningful as possible.
